Tried the jumper trick**** but to no avail. Tried with battery out**** battery in...(just made the back-light go out and had to push the on button to get there unit back to the back-light mode.
Do you have anymore suggestions. I am willing to try anything. I purchased another KP500 off of Ebay and that is getting me thru for now.

Thanks**** I tried this fix**** jumper the two points...had no luck in getting the display to work. I didn't have a scrambled display**** I had a blank display. Would this be classified as a different problem?
